The NHL salary cap has been growing significantly in recent years, and based on this report from Friedman, this trend should only continue. If the salary cap rises so significantly in the upcoming seasons, it would only lead to players landing even more expensive contracts in the NHL. This was certainly the case during this offseason, as players like Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar and San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini landed record contracts.
A higher salary cap would undoubtedly be a great thing for the league's players. Furthermore, a higher salary cap will allow NHL clubs to make more significant additions. It will now be interesting to see what the salary cap ends up being for the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.
