Nick Saban is among the many concerned onlookers who feel the current state of college football has gone out of control. The issues with NIL compensation and rampant transfer portal use are one thing. But now, school's like LSU are pursuing former NFL players to compete on their collegiate rosters.
During an appearance with "The Pat McAfee Show" on Thursday, Saban expressed his serious concerns regarding the current state of college athletics. "We obviously need some guard rails in college athletics, especially in football and basketball where you have so much revenue," Saban said. "We really don't have any guard rails. ...
"We have this happening in multiple transfers, we have it happening in guys that are 26 and 27 years old, competing against 18 year olds, I mean we have all kinds of issues that need to be addressed," Saban added. "And I think anti-trust legislation and making it law from a Federal standpoint is the only way that you can do that." Saban specifically called out LSU and their pursuit of former professional players. And they may have consequences relative to that," he added.
"So sometimes you can win but also lose in the end. And I don’t want to see that happen to LSU, and I don’t want to see that happen to Lane. So I hope this all gets resolved in a way that we can move forward without creating issues.”
