Notting Hill carnival returns to West London for 60th anniversary

Notting Hill Carnival returned to west London this weekend for its 60th anniversary, bringing music, colourful costumes and dancing to the streets. It's one of the world’s largest street festivals and a major celebration of British Afro-Caribbean culture. The carnival traces its roots to the 1950s, when Britain saw a large increase in arrivals from former Caribbean colonies after the Second World War.

What began as a response to racial tensions and community life has grown into a major annual celebration, attracting millions of people to Notting Hill each year.
