The Oklahoma Sooners pulled off the upset of the college football season to date on Saturday, taking down their arch rivals, the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns, in the annual Red River Rivalry. After the game, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer wasted no time in showboating about the win with a controversial postgame gesture. It was far from a pretty performance from Mateer and the Sooners offense, putting up just 238 yards of offense in the game.
But the offense came through when it mattered most, capitalizing on an interception thrown by Arch Manning with 19 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to get into field position and set up a game-winning field goal as time expired. As is typically the case in the Red River Rivalry, tensions were still quite high following the game. The two teams even nearly came to blows at midfield before coaches got involved and separated the two sides.

Given that Mateer ultimately didn't have the most impressive individual performance in the game, some fans on social media criticized the fact that he decided to plant the Oklahoma flag right in front of Texas players. The Sooners will look to take the positive momentum built in this game into Week 7, where they will face off against the Kentucky Wildcats.
