On Friday, Olivia Rodrigo gave her song "Expectations," one of the many highlights of her recent album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, a major makeover: She remixed the synth-pop banger with pal Chappell Roan, and they also made a glamorous '80s-inspired video. Since its release, the video has received backlash from fans assuming it used AI because there were animation inconsistencies. This would be really surprising given that earlier this month, in an interview she did with The Hollywood Reporter, Rodrigo was adamant about not using AI when it came to music.
"I would never use AI in any of my music,” she said. The closest I’d ever got is that once, me and [producer] Dan [Nigro] were like, ‘God, I wonder what ideas ChatGPT would have for an Olivia Rodrigo title,’ and they’re all fucking awful." The day following the video's release, Rodrigo’s official fan channel released a behind-the-scenes video that seems pointed in shutting down the rumors. The video shows mock-up illustrations of animations with the caption "bts of the hand-drawn characters, 2D & 3D animation, and analog TV screens used to create the retro graphics of the expectations music video."
