The Green Bay Packers have been brutal on the ground through the first four weeks of the NFL season, putting up a league-worst 58 rushing yards per game. For reference, the majority of the league is averaging over 100. Safe to say the Packers have sorely missed star running back Josh Jacobs, who remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt List due to an off-the-field incident and is still without a firm timeline.
The trio of MarShawn Lloyd, Kaleb Johnson, and Chris Brooks hasn’t worked so far, and now Green Bay has lost Brooks, the most efficient of the bunch, to an ankle injury. Brooks missed both Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practices. As a result, the team added another option to the backfield, signing Pierre Strong Jr. to the active roster from the practice squad.

Over his NFL career, he has appeared in 46 games and rushed for 499 yards and two touchdowns on 99 attempts, averaging 5.0 yards per carry, along with 193 receiving yards. That dual-threat ability should give the Packers some balance alongside Lloyd and Johnson, but it’s hard to have much confidence in the group given what we’ve seen so far.
Strong also hasn’t played in a regular-season game since December 2024, when he was still with the Browns. In that game, he rushed for 33 yards on five carries and added 15 receiving yards on three catches, but Cleveland fell 20-3 to Miami. Green Bay hosts its rival Bears on Sunday.
Chicago, by contrast, has one of the strongest rushing units in the NFL. Both teams need a win to keep pace with the undefeated Vikings. More news: Commanders Scramble for Receiver Help After Terry McLaurin Injury
