The Carolina Panthers are awaiting the results of testing to determine the severity of an injury that quarterback Bryce Young dealt with during Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 3. The Panthers did not specify where Young was injured, with head coach Dave Canales saying the quarterback was sore on Sunday. Young appeared to have issues with mobility after being sacked in the first half of Sunday's contest.
In the meantime, Carolina is dealing with a huge issue on its offensive line. He will not play in the Panthers' home game against the Detroit Lions in Week 4.
"Panthers G Damien Lewis will be sidelined a few weeks with a UCL injury in his elbow, sources tell me and (Ian Rapoport)," Garafolo posted on X. "Medical evaluations are still ongoing but Carolina’s best lineman is set to miss the game against the Lions. A bye in Week 5 so maybe only one game missed." Lewis has made 16 in each of the last two seasons with the Panthers.
He made all three starts at the beginning of this campaign. Per Pro Football Focus, Lewis is the third-highest graded offensive guard in the league through the first three games of the season. The injury comes at a bad time for Young.
Carolina expects Young to play against the Lions, but the loss of one of his best pass protectors isn't ideal for a quarterback who might have limited mobility on "Sunday Night Football." The Panthers enter Week 4 with a three-way tie with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons for the lead in the NFC South with a 1-2 record.
