Now that we are five weeks into the 2025 NFL regular season, some owners are starting to get antsy about making head coaching changes – it usually starts in early October for struggling teams. And few teams are more disappointing thus far than the Philadelphia Eagles. Might Nick Sirianni get a pink slip if his club loses at home Sunday against a rested and surging Carolina Panthers team? $1,500 in bonus bets: It's starting to cool down around the country, and that will be the case Sunday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love, via weather.com: Sunny skies.
With the Eagles -1.5 at DraftKings, 94% of ATS handle is on them but 55% of bets are on the Panthers. There's heavy action on the Over with a low total of 40.5. The latest odds I saw post-Week 5 on the first NFL head coach fired had Washington's Dan Quinn as the +200 favorite and Sirianni next at +400.
And that's absolutely no surprise to me after both NFC East head coaches made utterly stupid decisions that cost their teams victories this past Sunday. I'm sure you know by know what happened in Commanders-Giants and Eagles-Jaguars. Quinn and/or Jayden Daniels didn't even get a field-goal try off at end of overtime, with a win in Washington's hands.
Maybe that clock mistake was on Daniels, but there's no doubt it's on Sirianni for having Jake Elliott kick off into the Jacksonville landing zone on Sunday in London. That allowed a long return and a walk-off 57-yard field goal to win. All the Eagles had to do was kick the ball out of the end zone and the Jags are at their 35 hoping for a Hail Mary with no timeouts.
Kudos to Sirianni for taking the blame, but he wouldn't take any for managing the prior scoring drive in a way that left the Jaguars with more time than they should have had. Two passes stopped the clock, and Elliott kicked the go-ahead field goal with 12 seconds left. Why not run it down to only a couple and make that the final play?
"I'm honoring a play call, honoring the things that are coming in the game," QB Jalen Hurts said afterward. "We're not asking him to make play calls in that scenario," Sirianni responded to Monday. Starting to feel a disconnect there?
