Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs furthered their unbeaten record with a 30-27 win over the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon. Mahomes completed 15 of his 30 pass attempts for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Raiders signal caller Kirk Cousins threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Despite selecting reigning Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza with their No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Raiders have rolled with Cousins as their starting quarterback for the first four games of the season.
The veteran QB has Las Vegas in a good spot, narrowly trailing the Chiefs in the AFC West with a 3-1 record. Mahomes spent all but one game of his rookie season with the Chiefs as a backup behind Alex Smith. And if the Raiders keep winning with Cousins at the helm, Mendoza could easily follow that same path.
Mahomes praised the Raiders' quarterback approach when speaking to reporters postgame. "It’s going to do a lot of great things for him. I mean, Kirk is a true pro," Mahomes said.
"It’ll be great for Fernando to learn and just take in. Hopefully not too much, it went really well for me and Alex [Smith]. Maybe not that much, unless I’m gone.” The Raiders will look to get back in the win column in their Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots.
The Chiefs will take their undefeated record into their Week 5 bye.
