The Kansas City Chiefs needed to make a splash this offseason after finishing the 2025 season in third place in the AFC West with a 6-11 record. So, that's exactly what they did by signing Super Bowl LX MVP running back Kenneth Walker. It's a move that has been highly praised since it was made official, but now his new teammates are revealing just how big of an acquisition Walker could turn out to be.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently gushed over Walker's talent and hopes the team gets him as involved as possible. He can break a touchdown at any moment. If that’s either just handing the ball off to them or throwing it to them, you’ve got to and so we got him for a reason.
He came in with the right mindset and mentality, and he’s really attacked this offseason. And so, I think he’s as excited as anybody to get out there in Arrowhead and have Chiefs Kingdom behind him, and so him as well as Emmett [Johnson] and Brashard [Smith], I mean, we’ve got a good running back room, and we’ll utilize those guys within this offense.” Walker, 25, has been arguably one of the most underrated running backs in the league since entering it as a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Since then, he has rushed for 3,555 yards and 29 touchdowns while also recording 133 catches for 1,005 yards and two more scores.
It's safe to assume Walker could have his biggest workload yet in Kansas City, though, especially with Mahomes coming off a torn ACL and LCL. That could have the Chiefs relying on Walker early and often, which is exactly what Mahomes is hoping for anyway.
