An unarmed Pennsylvania man was shot dead by police after mistakenly trying to enter a stranger’s home instead of his friend’s following a night of drinking. Glenn “Bubba” Pysher, 22, was celebrating a friend’s birthday at a bar in Upper Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania about 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia, on Saturday night when his friends decided to bring the party back to one of their houses, his mother, Erin Pysher, told WPVI. Pysher decided to walk to his friend’s house — but arrived at the wrong location “after having a few drinks,” she said.
He didn’t know that, so he was knocking on the door saying, ‘Hey, let me in.’ Thinking it was his friend’s house, but it wasn’t,” his mother said. The couple inside the home were spooked and called 911, prompting police to respond to the possible attempted break-in around 12:30 a.m., the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office wrote in a statement. Police found Pysher at the back of the house, where “an encounter ensued,” prompting police to fatally shoot him, authorities said.
By 12:35, I believe he’s already shot. So, within a few minutes, the cop pulled up and shot him. He had a cell phone and a book bag,” his mother said.
Pysher was to start classes Monday at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey. He had recently transferred to the school to play baseball, his favorite sport, his family said. His mother described him as a “lovable goofball.” “He will walk in the back door and say his favorite thing, ‘Hey mom, your favorite kid is home.’ He was just happy-go-lucky.
Didn’t have a care in the world, and I’m going to miss that,” she said. It was not immediately clear why officers opened fire on Pysher. The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras in the backyard of the home, and the footage is part of the investigation, WPVI reported.
A GoFundMe set up for Pysher’s family described the 22-year-old as “a promising young man, athlete, and scholar who loved his family dearly.” “Everyone who knew him will remember his love for baseball and the joy he found in catching balls, something that brought so much pride to his father, mother, three sisters, and the entire Pysher family,” the fundraiser read.
