Criminal proceedings against a model and social media influencer accused of stealing from people she met through dating apps were suspended Thursday after questions were raised about her mental competency to stand trial. Adva Lavie, 29, also known as Mia Ventura, is charged with six felonies, including burglary and grand theft, stemming from allegations that she targeted people she met online. Lavie is now scheduled to appear Sept. 9 at the Mental Health Courthouse in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
The suspension temporarily puts the criminal case on hold while the competency issue is addressed. It does not determine Lavie's guilt or innocence. Prosecutors allege Lavie stole money and other property from people she met through dating apps, including wealthy older men and some younger women.
Authorities say the alleged crimes occurred between 2023 and 2025 in Westlake Village, West Hollywood, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. According to prosecutors, Lavie allegedly presented herself as a girlfriend or travel companion to gain access to victims' homes before stealing cash, gold and luxury designer goods. She faces two counts of grand theft, two counts of unauthorized use of personal identifying information, one count of first-degree residential burglary and one count of first-degree residential burglary with a person present.
The allegations have not been proven in court. A judge earlier this month denied a defense request to place Lavie in a mental health diversion program. She also faces separate charges in Riverside County.
Lavie's case has attracted additional attention because of her previous engagement to billionaire real estate executive and former California gubernatorial candidate Stephen Cloobeck. Cloobeck was arrested in West Hollywood in May and accused of attempting to dissuade people from testifying in the criminal case against Lavie, who was his fiancée at the time. Cloobeck was charged April 28 with two felony counts of attempting to prevent or dissuade a witness or victim from attending a proceeding by force or threat, along with one felony count of preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from attending or testifying at a proceeding.
He also faces a misdemeanor count of making annoying telephone calls, allegedly involving an attorney representing one of the alleged victims in Lavie's case. The people identified as alleged victims in the criminal complaint against Cloobeck are also alleged victims in Lavie's case. The California Post has reported that Cloobeck and Lavie are no longer engaged.
