NFL teams are reportedly checking to see if a contender is ready to trade a young talent whose role keeps shrinking. ESPN's Dan Graziano said teams are "curious" about the Jacksonville Jaguars' plans for Brian Thomas Jr., and they're expected to keep asking about the wide receiver before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. The Jaguars told suitors that they weren't interested in moving Thomas during the offseason.
Thomas looked like a long-term building block when earning Pro Bowl honors as a rookie with 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. Yet his role diminished under new head coach Liam Coen, as the first-round pick caught 48 of 91 targets for 707 yards and two touchdowns last season. His usage continues to plummet early in the 2026 campaign.
Thomas has played just 42% of the offense's snaps through three games, securing seven of 13 targets for 88 yards. Teams may be especially motivated to call after watching Thomas settle for an eight-yard reception on his only target in Sunday's 35-6 win over the New England Patriots. The former LSU star no longer looks like a top option for quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Parker Washington has carried over last year's late breakout with a team-leading 15 catches and 221 receiving yards. Although targeted just twice in the first two games, Jakobi Meyers registered seven receptions for 64 yards and a score against his former team in Week 3. Travis Hunter has played mostly at cornerback so far, but the Jaguars could still try to work the two-way star into their offense.
That would make it even harder for Thomas to stay on the field and remain an active member of a percolating offense.
