Melbourne indie rockers Quivers signed to Merge for 2024's impressive Oyster Cuts. Now reconfigured into a trio, the band is back today with "Bottle The Nervous," a subtly spectacular new song that serves as the A-side for a 7" out this week. Propulsive yet gentle, it swept me away immediately, then charmed me with lyrics like "You bottle the nervous/ It hurts so good/ Like being nervous should." This song was written while living that dream of finally really touring our previous album, Oyster Cuts.
It’s a song that partly bottles the fear and excitement of having a first kid. It’s also probably a song about other firsts: first songs you remember, first confusing friendships, the first time you saw a motorbike on fire. These are new musicians and this is a new chapter for Quivers.
There’s some fear and excitement around that, too. "Bottle The Nervous" b/w "Drive Somewhere" is out 11/6 on Merge. "Drive Somewhere" is physical-only, so pre-order the record here if you want to hear it.
