Raiders Announce Concerning Ashton Jeanty Injury Update Ahead of Week 5

A setback could cause Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty to miss Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

Ashton's Jeanty Week 5 status remains murky after another alarming update. Jeanty appeared on Thursday's injury report as a limited practice participant due to a foot/ankle issue. The Las Vegas Raiders running back is trending in the wrong direction after missing Friday's practice.

Las Vegas listed Jeanty as questionable for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. The Raiders also ruled out guard Trey Zuhn III (knee) and wide receivers Jalen Nailor (concussion) and Dont'e Thornton Jr. (hamstring). Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak told reporters that Jeanty will travel with the team to New England.

He didn't clarify whether the foot injury is new. Jeanty has had a disappointing start to his second season, averaging 3.4 yards per carry without a single rushing touchdown. He's rushed for 162 yards in three games since tallying 102 in Week 1, but Kubiak wouldn't blame the injury for the 22-year-old's play.

"I think he's been doing a great job," Kubiak said of Jeanty. "And again, he's a leader on our team. He's a guy we're counting on.

I couldn't be more happy with Ashton. We got to keep getting him and the entire offense playing better every week. But no, I don't think so." Missing Friday's practice doesn't bode well for Jeanty's chances to play this Sunday.

If he's sidelined, the Raiders could give rookie Mike Washington Jr. a heavy workload. The fourth-round pick has turned 24 carries into 120 yards and a touchdown this season. The Raiders have another chance to make a statement by defeating the reigning AFC champions one week after suffering their first loss of the season to the Kansas City Chiefs.
