The Las Vegas Raiders are ushering in a new era under first-year head coach Klint Kubiak and No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. Second-year running back Ashton Jeanty, who was just 25 yards short of a 1,000-yard rookie season last year, is a big part of the team’s rebuild. However, the Raiders got quite the injury scare on Sunday when Jeanty exited the practice field after suffering a knee injury, according to ESPN’s Ryan McFadden.
Given what happened after he went down, there’s a chance Jeanty’s prognosis may not be good. He was helped off the field by trainers and couldn’t put any pressure on his right leg. Entire team took a knee and said a prayer.” Jeanty got off to a slow start last season.
He didn’t record more than 63 yards rushing in his first three games before bursting through with a 138-yard, three-touchdown game against the Chicago Bears in Week 4. He only had one other 100-yard game the rest of the season, but he came close to hitting the 1,000-yard plateau, and he recorded 10 total touchdowns and added 55 catches for 346 yards to boot. If Jeanty does miss any significant time, the Raiders will have to rely on more youth and inexperience in the backfield.
Vegas has rookie fourth-round pick Mike Washington Jr., who rushed for 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns at Arkansas last season, and rookie Roman Hemby, who rushed for 1,120 yards and seven touchdowns for Indiana in 2025, as well as 26-year-old Dylan Laube behind Jeanty on the depth chart.
