The Los Angeles Rams are heading into a pivotal Week 4 contest without two of their best defensive linemen. Myles Garrett was placed on injured reserve following the Rams' Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers due to a knee injury that required surgery to fix. On Friday, Los Angeles ruled out defensive tackle Aaron Donald before its game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Rams, a preseason favorite by many in the league to win the Super Bowl, are 1-2 before going on the road to play the 2-1 Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are coming off a loss on "Monday Night Football" to the Chicago Bears and will be motivated to earn a win over the shorthanded Rams on Sunday. Another source from the Rams told Jones that Garrett will return by the time Los Angeles plays the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 25. A six-week absence for Garrett is considered the "worst-case scenario" for the Rams. In the meantime, the Rams have games that they desperately need to win without Garrett, whom they traded with the Cleveland Browns for this offseason.
Following Sunday's game against the Eagles, the Rams will host the Buffalo Bills on "Monday Night Football" in Week 5. Given the way the Rams have started the campaign against teams who made the playoffs last season (0-2 against the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos), Los Angeles could be in desperation mode by the time Garrett returns. Los Angeles would be much better off if at least Donald could play against the Bills.
Garrett was ineffective during the season opener against the 49ers because of the injury. He didn't record even one tackle in the 27-7 loss in Melbourne, Australia. When Garrett returns, the Rams need him to be closer to the player who recorded 23 sacks for the Browns last season.
