Rangers' Jacob deGrom Suddenly Linked to AL Central Team

Texas Rangers superstar pitcher Jacob deGrom is being linked to the Detroit Tigers ahead of the MLB offseason.

Texas Rangers star pitcher Jacob deGrom was the subject of rumors leading up to the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline, but ended up staying put. Now, with the Rangers' season over, deGrom is already being linked to a team in the AL Central. In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Kerry Miller named deGrom as a prime potential trade target for the Detroit Tigers this offseason.

"And if they'd rather trade for one expensive year of a two-time Cy Young winner instead of trying to re-sign their former two-time Cy Young winner to what promises to be an historic contract, they should find out if the Rangers are willing to budge on deGrom, who has given them a 3.44 ERA since his arrival in 2023," Miller wrote about the Tigers. With the Tigers' starting rotation needing help, it makes sense that they are being linked to deGrom. He would be a very good addition to a Tigers team that is looking to bounce back and make the playoffs next season.

This is especially so when noting that the Tigers traded both Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize ahead of this year's deadline. deGrom is coming off a shaky 2026 season, though, as he had an 11-11 record and a 4.20 ERA in 31 games for the Rangers. Yet, when noting that the two-time Cy Young Award winner had a 12-8 record and a 2.97 ERA during the 2025 season for the Rangers, he could certainly bounce back next season. He also has an outstanding resume, so it is hard to bet against him turning things back around next season.

Thus, it would make sense for Detroit to make a bold trade for him. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Tigers make a move for deGrom this offseason from here.
