The Toronto Raptors announced former NBA champion point guard Kyle Lowry's No. 7 jersey will be retired in a post-game ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 10. The Raptors will be hosting Lowry's current team, the Philadelphia 76ers, at Scotiabank Arena. Lowry led the Raptors to the franchise's only NBA championship in 2019.
He played nine seasons with Toronto and has earned the title of GROAT, which stands for Greatest Raptor Of All Time. I always said that Toronto is home, and that I’d retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me,” Lowry said. We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me.” The Raptors have only ever retired one other player's jersey in franchise history.
The franchise retired Hall of Famer Vince Carter's No. 15 jersey on Nov. 2, 2024. Now, Lowry will become the second Raptors player in history to earn the exclusive honor. Leading up to Lowry's jersey retirement ceremony, the Raptors are hosting two additional "GROAT night" on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz, respectively.
Lowry announced that he is partnering with the Raptors to give away two free tickets for each of the three games (Jan. 7, Jan. 8, and Jan. 10). Toronto is also giving out Lowry-themed bobbleheads and T-shirts at these games to celebrate Lowry's historic career with the Raptors.
