The Baltimore Ravens could receive a major boost ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, but Lamar Jackson's availability remains uncertain as the team monitors his ankle injury. Head coach Jesse Minter gave an update on the two-time NFL MVP on Wednesday, offering encouragement without committing to his return. Jackson has not practiced since suffering the injury during Baltimore's Oct. 4 win over the Tennessee Titans.
"Sure, yeah, I think, it's definitely day to day," Minter said, per the Ravens' official video. "I think a lot of times those things right when they happen you're not sure, and as you gather information, you look at stuff," he added. Minter also praised Jackson's efforts to get back on the field, making it clear that the quarterback is working toward a return.
"To Lamar's credit, he's working his butt off, he's doing everything he can to be out here and, when he's able to be, then he will," Minter said. There is some reason for optimism. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Jackson has a realistic chance of returning against Cleveland on Sunday, Oct. 18.
However, his lack of participation in Wednesday's practice means the Ravens still need to evaluate his progress before making a decision. Jackson's likely return would be significant for Baltimore's offense. His ability to threaten defenses as both a passer and a runner makes him central to the Ravens' attack, particularly alongside running back Derrick Henry.
If Jackson cannot play, Tyler Huntley is expected to start again after leading Baltimore to an overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5. Huntley helped the Ravens secure the win, keeping them competitive despite losing their starting quarterback.
