Former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski is taking a stand against all the torch-carrying haters who are prematurely calling for the head of New England Patriot’s young quarterback Drake Maye. While the comment section appears to be a Leo Tolstoy-length novel of criticism from fans and professionals alike, Gronkowski will have none of it because, to put it simply, it’s not all Maye’s fault. He’s simply missing his star wide receiver.
During an interview with “Up & Adams,” the former Patriots tight-end had nine words for all of Maye’s naysayers: “There is literally no one open on the field.” While showing plays from Sunday’s 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gronk explained how it was near impossible for Maye to make a successful play considering there were cricket noises booming in the field during the specific clips pulled that showcased Maye’s “conundrum.” While pointing out some solid throws Maye made during the clips, Gronkowski did admit that Maye needs A.J. Brown back while saying that the quarterback lacks targets. He’s gonna have to stick it in every single time into a tight window on all routes right there.” Gronk made it clear that all the blame shouldn’t be aimed at Maye alone.
They’ve gotta get the juice going with the Patriots offense. I think the defense is solid. I mean eventually they’re gonna collapse with the offense that just isn’t moving the ball and not putting up any points and turning it over even with a good defense.
Yes, Drake Maye needs to build confidence but also it’s a team thing as well. Those wide recievers need to get open more, I mean, how creative can you get with the playbook? With the talent that you have, there’s only so much that you can do as an offensive coordinator.” Brown was placed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain during Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks and his earliest target return is Week 6.
