Robert Griffin III has sparked talk of a possible football comeback, but the discussion surrounding it has been full of humor. The former quarterback says multiple teams have contacted him, while the UFL is also trying to bring him back. Griffin revealed the conversations on the Double Coverage podcast.
He added that the UFL had contacted him and was trying to convince him to play. He said he had assumed his playing career was over, but a return is now possible. The conversation drew more attention when Repole Stable posted the video on X alongside a caption from UFL co-owner Mike Repole.
Repole invited Griffin to join the league, suggesting he could play quarterback while also serving as a color commentator and hosting a weekly UFL show. He said the UFL wants to make spring football more entertaining and fan-friendly, then asked fans which market and team would suit Griffin. Griffin confirmed on X that “Cats out of the bag now.
Coming back to play football in the @UFLonFOX and in the @NFL are on the table.” He thanked the FOX Sports crew, saying they make being around football “fun and entertaining,” and closed by saying he was trusting God’s plan. The 36-year-old was Washington’s second overall pick in 2012 after winning the Heisman Trophy at Baylor. He won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl, but injuries disrupted his career.
His last NFL appearance came with Baltimore in 2020. He later moved into broadcasting and now covers college football and the NFL for FOX Sports. No team has been publicly identified, and the comments do not signal that a contract is imminent.
For now, Griffin’s return remains a possibility while he continues his broadcasting work.
