The New Orleans Saints' offense is as strong as it has been in over half a decade. With the emergence of second year quarterback Tyler Shough at the end of the 2025 season, the signing of running back Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency and the drafting of Jordyn Tyson in April's draft, it finally felt like the Saints had an offense that was truly to be reckoned with. However, one of the biggest budding stars on the offense will miss the first half of the season, per Ian Rapoport, after he and Mike Garafolo reported that Tyson is out for the first two months of the season with a hamstring injury.
"Saints rookie WR Jordyn Tyson, who has been a standout during training camp, is expected to be out roughly two months with his hamstring injury, per me and MikeGarafolo. Tyson, who has been consulting with experts, could begin the season on short-term Injured Reserve." Rapoport posted on X on Monday. Tyson had been one of the shining lights on offense throughout the first four weeks of camp, and perhaps even more crucially gives the Saints another bona fide target at receiver beyond WR1 Chris Olave.
This year's 8th overall pick has had his fair share of injuries in the past. The majority of which – unsurprisingly – have been recurring hamstring injuries. Had he not had such injury troubles, the ASU standout could well have been the first wideout off the board this past spring.
This is Tyson's third hamstring strain in under 10 months, and often hamstring injuries are not unrelated and incidental, they continue to return if the problem is not rehabbed fully and correctly. In the meantime, the Saints will look to their other young receivers to step in and fill Tyson's ever-enlarging shoes as Olave's no. 2. Rookies Barion Brown and Bryce Lance could end with far larger roles, as could 2024 UDFA Mason Tipton, who started 3 games in 2025.
