The Indianapolis Colts' decision to trade multiple first-round picks for former All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner has not yielded the team results that most expected to this point. As a result, Gardner finds himself in an unprecedented position looking to snap a lengthy losing streak in the Colts' Week 3 divisional clash against the Houston Texans. Dating back to last season, the Colts have lost nine straight games after a 0-2 start to the 2026 season, their last loss coming in heartbreaking fashion in an overtime defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately for Gardner, his own personal losing streak, especially on U.S. soil, goes back much deeper than just the Colts' nine-game losing streak. His last game won on U.S. soil when he was active and on the field came all the way back on Dec. 15 of 2024 as a member of the New York Jets.
This remarkable stat has since come to light and has been making rounds on social media following the Colts Week 2 loss. And during a conversation with James Boyd of The Athletic, Gardner made it clear that he is well aware of this lengthy losing streak. "Right now, there is certain stuff that I just laugh at," said Gardner.
"Obviously, that is true. But the reality is I’m gonna hear it. I'm gonna hear the bad stuff way more than the good stuff.
But that’s what I got y’all for. When good stuff happens, y’all just make sure y’all do y’all thing." While not all of the Colts issues on defense fall on Gardner, the group has collectively had a historically bad start to the 2026 campaign, allowing an average of 514.5 yards per game thus far on the year.
This ranks as the second-most yards allowed across the first two games of an NFL season of any team in league history. Indianapolis and Gardner will face another tough high-powered offense on Sunday when they face off against the Texans, who rank inside the top ten in the league in total yards per game thus far this season.
