Seahawks Take Step Toward Major Offensive Boost With Latest Move

The Seattle Seahawks are moving toward a major offensive boost with their latest move involving running back Zach Charbonnet.

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet opened up the 2026 NFL season on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from the torn ACL injury he suffered during the divisional round of last season's playoffs. On Thursday, the Seahawks designated Charbonnet to return to practice — opening up a 21-day ramp-up window where he can practice with the team without counting toward the 53-man active roster. He still has to sit out one more game before he's eligible to return from the PUP list, meaning his earliest possible return is for a Week 5 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald mentioned the team's Week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos when speaking to reporters about Charbonnet on Wednesday. "It's a matter of how many practices they need, roster spots and things like that. He's doing a great job and he's in a great position mentally," MacDonald said, via the team's official website.

"It's just about what's the best time and how does that create the most opportunities to get them ready to play? We've got the Denver week. There's not a lot of great practice (opportunities) that week.

There are some other things going on that we've just got to work through, but we'll decide by tomorrow. He'll either practice tomorrow, or he won't." Charbonnet had the best season of his NFL career with the Seahawks in 2025, rushing for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns, while reeling in 20 catches for an additional 144 yards. First-round rookie running back Jadarian Price has dealt with injury and fumble issues in his young career with the Seahawks, meaning Charbonnet could be heavily featured in the run game once he's ready to go.

Seattle also has Emanuel Wilson and George Holani on the RB depth chart. The Seahawks will face off against the Los Angeles Chargers in a Week 4 matchup this coming Sunday.
