Aaron Donald missed the Los Angeles Rams' Week 4 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday due to back soreness that forced him to miss practice last week. It seemed to be a major setback the unretired star didn't want to face. However, it doesn't seem like the injury will sideline the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year too long.
Rams coach Sean McVay shared on Monday that the "hope" is for Donald to return to practice this week and be ready for next Monday night's game versus the Buffalo Bills. "I don’t want to pigeonhole, but yeah, that’s the direction that it looks like it’s trending in.” This is an encouraging update for Donald. The Rams are dealing with enough defensive injuries right now, so it'll be good to have one less player to worry about.
The biggest injury situation the Rams are dealing with involves newly acquired defensive lineman Myles Garrett, who sits on the injured reserve list after undergoing surgery for a knee injury he suffered in Week 1. Garrett is expected to return either in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals, or in Week 7 versus the Las Vegas Raiders. The stacked Rams offense could finally team up together here soon, and then they'll be even scarier to face.
Los Angeles could also get cornerback Jaylen Watson back next Monday. Watson dislocated his shoulder last week, but McVay said the cornerback is expected to practice this week. Donald played in the Rams' second and third games, respectfully, and recorded a total of four tackles in that span.
He has yet to sack a quarterback, something he did 111 times during his 10-year tenure with the Rams from 2014–23 before he retired.
