Sean McVay Shares Update on Myles Garrett's Return Timeline

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has been on the IR since after the first game of the season.

Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett hasn't played since Week 1 as he underwent knee surgery after the first contest. He was placed on the injured reserve list, and there's been little update about his return timeline. The countdown is finally starting as Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters on Monday that Garrett's 21-day practice window is officially open.

On top of that exciting news, McVay said Garrett will practice this week, too. However, this update doesn't necessarily mean that Garrett will play next weekend against the Washington Commanders. McVay explained that the team doesn't want to rush Garrett back.

They'll re-assess him throughout the week once he logs some practicing. The Rams will have to activate Garrett off the IR within the 21-day practice window, or the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year's season will end. That would be an extremely disappointing outcome after the Rams traded for Garrett with the Cleveland Browns in the offseason.

Garrett will have to return either for this weekend's game, the Week 10 matchup versus the Arizona Cardinals or by the very latest for the Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers. Whenever Garrett returns to the field, it'll be a highly-anticipated game for many reasons. It'll likely mark the first time Garrett and former DPOY Aaron Donald, who is playing out of retirement this season, will team up together on the Rams.

Donald was inactive for Week 1, and then missed another game because of back soreness. NFL fans have been dying to see these two defensive powerhouses share the field, and that wish could be coming true in the coming weeks.
