After defeating the New York Giants, 28-6, in "Monday Night Football," Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay didn't hesitate to remind everyone of the circumstances surrounding his team's previous loss. The Rams kicked off their season with the first NFL International Series game of this season's slate, in Melbourne, Australia, against the San Francisco 49ers. Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers arrived to their destination nearly a week before the game.
However, the Rams decided to arrive closer to kickoff, arriving in Australia about a day before the game. Many questioned McVay and the Rams over their decision to land when they did. "I think sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.
And you know, sometimes you have a dumb-[expletive] coach that makes travel plans that put you in a bad spot," McVay said at his postgame press conference after "MNF." It's still a long season, and he's probably used to having fun with critics at this point in his career, after previously guiding the Rams to their 2021 Super Bowl win. No travel was necessary beyond players and staff commuting to SoFi Stadium for Monday night's Week 2 game.
After a disappointing loss to their division rivals, the Rams delivered a big win in front of their home fans in Los Angeles. The win moved the Rams to 1-1 early in their season. For their Week 3 game, they'll be traveling again, and this time to Denver's Mile High to take on the winless Broncos. One has to wonder if the Rams can continue their winning ways against a team desperate to get their first win of the season.
