Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton publicly went to bat for his quarterback, clapping back at an analyst on social media. During a recent appearance on "First Things First," NFL analyst Geoff Schwartz suggested Nix won't improve this coming season due to a lack of ability to push the ball down the field. Nix led the league with seven game-winning drives in 2025, completing 63.4% of his pass attempts for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
He averaged over 10 yards per competition for the second straight year. Since entering the league in 2024, Nix has more touchdowns of 20+ air yards (19) than any other player in the league, according to NextGenStats. "Always easy to tell who works at it and who doesn't," Payton replied to Schwartz's take.
Nix led the Broncos to the AFC Championship game this past season, suffering an ankle fracture during an overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. Now, the third-year QB is gearing up for his team's Week 1 "Monday Night Football" matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 14. The Broncos will close out their preseason schedule with a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday.
