The Dallas Cowboys spent the offseason revamping the defensive side of the ball, particularly at pass-rusher. The team traded for Pro Bowler Rashan Gary, signed former All-Pro Von Miller, and drafted Malachi Lawrence and Jaishawn Barham, which could make some of Dallas’ incumbent defensive ends expendable. Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport thinks if any of the Cowboys players should be worried about their job security it’s Sam Williams, who he predicted will be a cut candidate when the team cuts down its roster.
Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, rookie Malachi Lawrence and newly signed Von Miller appear to be locks for the 53-man roster. Williams would no doubt quickly get scooped up, but the truth is there may not be room for him in Dallas anymore.” In three seasons with the Cowboys, Williams has totaled 85 tackles, 9.5 sacks, our fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. The 27-year-old missed the entire 2024 season after tearing his ACL during the preseason.
He played all 17 games last year, though he didn’t make much of an impact and recorded just one sack. With the influx of talent the Cowboys brought in, Williams knows he could be on thin ice. But it’s a challenge he welcomes.
