The Spice Girls have published a cryptic callout directed at fans who can "sing and dance". A video shared on the pop group’s Instagram page features a newspaper advert from The Stage, the same trade publication that advertised for an all-female group in 1994. The paper was placed on the stairs used in their 1996 “Wannabe” music video.
The ad read: "R U a Spice Girls fan with the ability to sing and dance? R U a superfan, a collector, a music lover? "Spice Girls are a widely successful, global, choreographed, singing/dancing all female pop act with a record nine number ones in the UK and over 100 million global sales.
"Thursday 10th September at 2 o’clock BST. But you will need a vinyl or CD player." The group offered no additional information explaining the purpose of the advert. They achieved global fame following the release of their 1996 debut single Wannabe, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. The award-winning act also produced hits including Stop, 2 Become 1, Who Do You Think You Are? and Viva Forever, securing nine UK number one singles and two chart-topping albums. Halliwell-Horner departed the band in 1998, citing "differences between us", before the remaining members parted ways in December 2000 to begin an indefinite hiatus.
They reunited in 2012 for the closing ceremony of the London Summer Olympics and again in 2019 for their Spice World tour, but have remained the subject of ongoing speculation regarding a return to the stage. Earlier this year, Brown discussed the possibility of the group reforming to celebrate their 30th anniversary. She said: “It’s our 30th anniversary, I do think we should be doing something. Whether that actually happens or not is another story, but we’re all talking about it because if not anything, just for our fans.
