The Golden State Warriors' championship window appears to be closing. They missed out on the LeBron James sweepstakes, along with Kawhi Leonard, Jaylen Brown, and every other notable trade target, and head into the 2026-27 season with one of the oldest cores in the NBA. With Draymond Green set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, many have wondered what's going to happen with Steph Curry.
But Curry addressed any speculation about possibly leaving the Warriors during a recent interview with CNBC's Alex Sherman. "Not at all," Curry said when asked whether he'd ever choose to leave in free agency like James did this summer. "I've always stated that I want to be a lifer with Golden State.

But given everything that's happened in recent months, it's fair to wonder whether that remains the case. James left the Lakers to join the 76ers for one more shot at a title out East. Kawhi Leonard is headed back to Toronto, where he won a championship in 2019.
And there are still questions swirling about whether Kevin Durant could get dealt before the 2026-27 season. Ja Morant, LaMelo Ball, and Giannis Antetokounmpo all switched teams this summer as well, and the Western Conference isn't getting any easier, with both the Thunder and Spurs built around a young core of superstars. He's still one of the best players in the league, averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists while shooting 39.3% from deep last season, and everybody expects him to sign an extension with the Warriors at some point. He's the face of the franchise and their biggest driver of ticket sales. It's now just a matter of when, how much, and for how long.
