Summer officially ends Tuesday with the autumnal equinox at precisely 8:04 p.m. ET in the Northern Hemisphere, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. It also caps what is historically the stock market's worst season.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen an average of 9.5% during summer since 1964, measuring from the May-June low, the Stock Trader's Almanac says.
