The No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers are set to make a quarterback change before they go on the road to play 2-3 Arkansas on Saturday. The Volunteers have been led by freshman Faizon Brandon to start the season. He's thrown for 697 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception through his first five starts.
He's added 130 yards and three scores on the ground. He suffered a shoulder injury in Tennessee's 20-17 loss to Texas on Sept. 26. Per ESPN's Pete Thamel, Tennessee will turn to George MacIntyre to make his first career start against Arkansas.
The decision was made amid Brandon's injury. Faizon Brandon is dealing with a shoulder injury from the Texas game." Fazion threw for 145 yards and one touchdown against the Longhorns while adding just two yards on the ground. He went 3 of 8 passing for 0 yards in the Volunteers' 24-14 win over Auburn in Week 5. MacIntyre, a freshman from Franklin, Tennessee, completed nine passes for 69 yards for the Volunteers last season.
He's thrown for 148 yards and one touchdown this season. He went 8 of 10 passing for 86 yards in relief of Fazion against Auburn. Following the win over Auburn, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel told reporters that Fazion didn't play his best against the Tigers and the coaching staff wanted to evaluate the quarterback position this week.
"Faizon, ultimately, didn't play his best football," Heupel said, via Knox News. "But I've said it a bunch ... we're going to need them all throughout the course of the year... The guys that had to step up did and we'll be back in the building on Monday and continue to grow.
