The pressure was already on Marvin Harrison Jr. to bounce back this season. The former fourth overall pick posted just 608 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 41 catches last season, numbers that aren't acceptable for a player drafted to be one of the NFL's next superstar wideouts. This season, he's looked even worse.
Through two games, he's caught just one pass for 33 yards on only four targets. In Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, with the Arizona Cardinals trailing for much of the game, he saw just one target come his way. He's looked slow and disengaged so far this season, and questions have already started to surface about his effort on the field.
Now, NFL executives around the league are reportedly watching the Cardinals closely to see whether Harrison could end up on the trade block. He was a unanimous All-American in each of his last two years at Ohio State, posting over 1,200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns both seasons.
In 2023, he hauled in 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns on 67 catches, averaging 18.1 yards per catch and outpacing the likes of Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate. He was widely projected to be a generational talent entering the NFL, but in his second season with the Cardinals, he hasn't looked anything like that. It's one thing to get outplayed by Trey McBride, arguably the best tight end in football.
But when Michael Wilson, a former third-round pick in 2023, looks like a better pass catcher, there's a real problem. It's not a knock on Wilson, who's shown every sign of becoming a breakout receiver. The issue is that's what Harrison was meant to be, and he has yet to live up to his draft investment.
