Texans' Star-Studded Defense Gets Even Deeper With Former Jets Starter

The Texans have one of the NFL's scariest defenses — and they just made it even deeper, signing a former Jets starting corner.

No team in the NFL ignites more fear in opposing quarterbacks than the Houston Texans. They've got a loaded front seven headlined by All-Pro pass rushers Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, and Pro Bowl linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. The defensive backfield is even more terrifying, with All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., Pro Bowl corner Kamari Lassiter, elite nickel Jalen Pitre, and Pro Bowl safety Calen Bullock.

They also signed Super Bowl champion safety Reed Blankenship this offseason. Even with all that talent, head coach DeMeco Ryans isn't afraid to keep adding. On Monday, the Texans made their latest move, signing veteran cornerback and former Jets starter Bryce Hall.

Hall reportedly worked out with the Texans in early August and clearly showed enough to earn a spot on the roster. He missed the first half of his rookie season recovering from a severe lower leg and ankle injury suffered during his final college season.

But he made his presence felt immediately upon return, starting seven of eight games and finishing with 36 combined tackles, including one for loss, three pass breakups, and an interception. He followed that up with a strong 2021 season, starting all 17 games for the Jets and recording 79 combined tackles, including four for loss, two quarterback hits, and 16 pass breakups. After the Jets revamped their secondary, though, Hall was phased out over his final two seasons in New York.

He then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2024 and appeared in Week 1 before suffering another major injury — dislocating his ankle and fracturing his fibula — causing him to miss the entire 2024 season. He signed with the UFL's Louisville Kings in February 2026, winning a UFL Championship in June, and now he's getting another shot in the NFL, this time with one of the deepest defensive units in the league. Hall is a physical 6-foot-1, 200-pound corner with legitimate starting experience.

That positions him well to make the Texans' final roster at the end of the month and potentially provide valuable depth for a team with real Super Bowl aspirations. More news: Bills’ Josh Allen-DJ Moore Connection Shines in Preseason Win Over Panthers
