Texas quarterback Arch Manning has the Longhorns poised as the No. 1 ranked team in the country following the program's 3-0 start to the 2026 season. This coming Saturday, Manning and his team have another tough test — a clash against the No. 14 ranked Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. Manning's uncle, Peyton Manning, is the best quarterback in Tennessee program history.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer played four seasons with the Volunteers before entering the NFL as the Indianapolis Colts' No. 1 overall pick in 1998. The Manning quarterback pedigree, which also includes his other uncle Eli and grandfather Archie, has resulted in some serious expectations on Arch's shoulders. However, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian wants his quarterback to ignore those expectations as he prepares for Saturday's matchup against Tennessee.
I want him to be Arch Manning. I don’t him to be Archie [Manning]. I don’t want him to be Peyton [Manning].
I don’t want him to be Eli [Manning]. I don’t want him to be Vince Young or Colt McCoy. I want him to be Arch Manning and Arch Manning is plenty good enough for us to put us in a position to win," Sarkisian told reporters on Monday, via CJ Vogel.
Saturday's Texas-Tennessee matchup will kick off at noon ET.
