This October is shaping up to be a tale of two cultures: the old and the new. Nostalgia and rebirth—or some combination of both. Coming back for its latest season, Saturday Night Live has tapped both first-time and returning hosts for its opening episodes.
American Horror Story's 13th season will see the homecoming of some of its most iconic characters, including ones from Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson. Channing Tatum was accused of reminiscing a little too hard over his exes online. The Sound of Music is audible once again in Austria, this time at a new Salzburg museum.

The long running late-night sketch comedy returns for its 52nd season with a slate of hosts that are both new and timely, with a veteran thrown in for good measure. New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson, a first time host, will open the season. After him, veteran hosts Dakota Johnson and Shane Gillis will return, followed by another newbie, Inde Navarrette, the breakout star from the film Obsession.
One of the things that is great about SNL is that it finds a way to somehow be both timely and nostalgic, and these mix of hosts personify that. And with the midterm elections around the corner, we need SNL back on our screens now more than ever. All-stars seasons are usually reserved for reality competitions, but leave it to Ryan Murphy to turn American Horror Story into his very own all-stars.
Season 13 brings back a murderers' row of AHS icons, including Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Murphy's longtime muse, Sarah Paulson. During an appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark, Lange revealed that "Ryan Murphy talked me into coming back," and she had just one condition: "I'll come back if I can do all four characters." Naturally, Murphy obliged. According to Lange, "everybody is a returning character, pretty much." Frankly, I'm screaming.
