Malta, an adorable chocolate-and-tan miniature dachshund, came to ARK earlier this year when his family was forced to surrender him due to circumstances that were no fault of the dog. Malta wasn’t bothered, at least not outwardly. He settled in to life at the shelter in about 5 minutes.
The word is he doesn’t care where he is at all. He just needs people and treats. True or exaggerated, this fellow does love his food.
Though only 5 years old, he gives the impression of being much older due to his stocky physique. And, he’s been on a diet regime, with some success. In fact, Malta’s name actually evolved from “Maruta,” a name that was composed of the Japanese characters for “round” and “fat.” So as not to focus too much on his shape, his name was kindly changed to the current “Malta.” Malta is one of the friendliest dogs around.
Strangers, friends, children, all are welcome. His only dislike is other dogs. He’ll walk with them but otherwise he’s most likely to turn into quite the little bully, probably an attitude sparked by his fondness for food and a need to stop others from having what he thinks should be his.
Nevertheless, we think Malta is a real find!
