The new-look Minnesota Timberwolves got off to a hot start in their 2026-27 NBA campaign on Wednesday night, notching a 131-106 win over the Miami Heat. This season-opening contest marked the Timberwolves debut of LaMelo Ball, who landed with the franchise in a blockbuster trade with the Charlotte Hornets this past offseason. Ball impressed in his first regular-season game with the Timberwolves, scoring 21 points to go along with six assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Ball's dynamic backcourt partner, Anthony Edwards, had an even more impressive performance. The 25-year-old shooting guard finished the win with a ridiculous 45-point, 10-rebound stat line. "The relationship is all the way up," Ball said of Edwards postgame.
"I feel like I got the best shooting guard in the world. Like I said, we're ready." Edwards and Ball, the No. 1 and No. 3 picks from the 2020 NBA Draft, look as though they'll be a dangerous backcourt duo in the Western Conference. Now, Ball and Edwards turn their attention toward a matchup against the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
