According to a team statement, Gray has entered the NFL's concussion protocol after being involved in a UTV accident over the weekend. "Over the weekend, Cedric Gray was involved in a UTV accident in Tennessee and sustained a concussion and minor injuries," the team said in a statement.
"We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL's concussion protocol." The Titans open the season Sunday against the New York Jets, head coach Robert Saleh's former team. Entering concussion protocol less than a week before the opener makes it unlikely Gray will suit up in Week 1, since players must complete several phases of the NFL's return-to-participation program before being cleared. This is a situation worth monitoring in the days ahead.

PFF rewarded him with an overall grade of 78.9, the seventh-highest rating out of 88 qualified linebackers, and a 92.7 run defense grade, the second-highest. Gray was already playing at a Pro Bowl-caliber level last season and was expected to take another step forward this year.
Now the Titans will have to navigate at least the start of the season without him. That puts added pressure on veteran Cody Barton, along with third-year player James Williams Sr. and rookie second-round pick Anthony Hill Jr., to fill the void.
