Portland Trail Blazers guard Shaedon Sharpe suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee that is expected to sideline him for six months, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The injury was reportedly sustained during an offseason workout. Sharpe has played four seasons with the Trail Blazers.
Portland drafted him out of Kentucky with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He signed a four-year, $90 million contract extension with the Trail Blazers last year and is projected to make approximately $20 million during the 2026-27 season. Last season, Sharpe averaged 20.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 29.4 minutes per game.
He started in 42 of 50 regular season games then appeared in five playoff games during the 2025-26 season. Since joining the Trail Blazers in 2022, Sharpe has suffered multiple injuries that have sidelined him for large chunks of time. Last season, he missed 28 games with a stress fracture of his left fibula.
During the 2023-24 season, Sharpe was sidelined with a finger injury in November, then a groin injury in December and finally an abdominal strain in January. In his very first Summer League game in July 2022, Sharpe tore his left shoulder labrum. However, he was ultimately able to recover and play in a career-high 80 games during his rookie season in 2022-23.
The Trail Blazers have just over a month until their first preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 7. The team's first regular season game will be against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 21. Sharpe will be out to start the season.
