Trump has made no secret of his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize. But as the prize approaches, he remains a Nobel outsider.

President Donald Trump has made no secret of his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He has repeatedly argued that his diplomatic record—including the Abraham Accords and other efforts to resolve international conflicts—makes him deserving of the world's most prestigious peace award. But as the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize approaches, Trump remains a Nobel outsider.

"I should have gotten it four or five times," Trump said in June 2025, pointing to what he described as his efforts to end conflicts in multiple countries from Rwanda to Serbia and Kosovo, to India and Pakistan. While the Nobel has remained out of reach, Trump has collected several other international honors recognizing his work in diplomacy and peace. Those include FIFA's newly created Peace Prize, Kosovo's highest state honor and the United Arab Emirates' highest civilian decoration.

Trump became the inaugural recipient of FIFA's newly created FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World in December 2025. FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented Trump with the award during the final draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

FIFA said the annual prize was created to recognize individuals who have taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace and helped unite people around the world. Trump received the award after hosting the leaders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Washington for the signing of a peace agreement. FIFA also cited Trump's broader diplomatic efforts, including attempts to end other international conflicts.

The award was particularly notable because it was created only weeks before Trump became its first recipient. Trump was awarded the Order of Zayed, the United Arab Emirates' highest civilian honor for heads of state, during his May 2025 visit to Abu Dhabi. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented Trump with the honor in recognition of his efforts to strengthen cooperation and relations between the United States and the UAE.

The award is connected to the broader diplomatic relationship forged during Trump's first administration, including the 2020 Abraham Accords, which established diplomatic normalization between Israel and the UAE and subsequently involved additional countries. In September 2020, then-Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi awarded Trump the Order of Freedom, Kosovo's highest state order, recognizing what Kosovo described as his contribution to the country's freedom and to peace and stability in the region. Thaçi specifically cited the U.S.-brokered economic normalization agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, signed at the White House in September 2020.
