President Donald Trump's approval rating among millennials is slipping in the latest Economist/YouGov poll, adding to a broader pattern of declining support among younger Americans. Just 26 percent of those age 30 to 44, or millennials, now approve of the job Trump is doing as president, according to the poll conducted from August 14 until August 17. That is down from 29 percent last week and marks the fifth consecutive week in which his approval among the group has declined or held steady.
The new poll also found Trump's overall approval at 35 percent, with 61 percent disapproving of his job performance. The poll surveyed 1,611 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 3.4 percent. White House Spokeswoman Olivia Wales told Newsweek via email when asked about the new poll on Tuesday, "President Trump has signed the largest middle-class tax cuts in history, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, sealed the border, driven violent crime to the lowest level in nearly a century, unleashed an energy revolution, and sent Americans’ 401(k)s climbing to record highs.

The Economist/YouGov poll also shows that younger Americans are particularly negative about several areas of Trump's presidency.
Among voters ages 18 to 29, just 30 percent approve of Trump's overall job performance while 67 percent disapprove. Among those ages 30 to 44, 26 percent approve and 70 percent disapprove. The same poll found only 24 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds approve of Trump's handling of foreign policy, while 25 percent approve of his handling of tariffs.
Millennials' approval of those policy issues is further underwater, with 21 percent approving of the president's handling of foreign policy and 19 percent approving of his handling of tariffs. The last time the president's approval with the key voting bloc was 26 percent or below was in a survey taken from June 5-8 by the pollster, where the president's approval with millennials was 26 percent. The numbers come as Trump approaches the 2026 midterm elections with his overall approval at or near its lowest.
