Trump Tells Minnesota to 'Fight' Somali Immigrants Amid Alleged ISIS Plot

Trump has long railed against the state's Governor, Tim Walz, with his administration carrying out widespread immigration raids.

President Donald Trump told Minnesotans to "fight back" against Somali immigrants in their state Thursday, a day after federal officials announced charges against a Somali American man over an alleged terror attack plot at the Mall of America. In a post to Truth Social, the president said the state was "being taken over" by Somali immigrants, adding there was "violence, murder, and mayhem all over the state," before calling for residents to fight back. "You have been robbed, and abandoned by your State Government.

Your Governor is an incompetent thief who doesn't want to get involved. He just wants to get out of town with as much as he can steal, and then, lead a quiet life," Trump said of Democratic Governor Tim Walz. "The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing.

They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back!" Trump's comment come after the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the arrest of 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, a U.S. citizen of Somali heritage, on Wednesday. The agencies accused him of speaking to a source online for almost two years about traveling to Somalia to join a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) to then carry out an attack in Minnesota.

The president has long criticized Walz for his handling of alleged fraud connected to the Somali community in the state. In late 2025, a widespread immigration enforcement operation descended on Minneapolis and St. Paul, leading to the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal agents.

Newsweek reached out to the White House for clarification on the president's remarks, and contacted Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and the state's two Democratic Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar for comment Thursday afternoon. This is a breaking news story.
