Rescuers in Nepal continue to pull people out on Saturday, 10 days after the devastating floods hit along the Nepal-Tibet border, meanwhile thousands of people are still missing. In separate situations, one Chinese man and a woman were found alive by rescue teams. The woman was found alive in her house buried under thick mud and debris in flood-hit Nuwakot, footage released by Nepal's army shows the woman covered in mud, officials say she has been airlifted to Kathmandu.
In parallel, Nepal's prime minister's office posted on social media that the man was rescued from a hydropower tunnel. He is the third person to be pulled from the Trishuli hydropower project, as two Nepalese workers were rescued on Friday. The man was pulled from a 225-meter tunnel and evacuated in a helicopter by Nepalese military personnel who were working alongside South Korean disaster experts according to Nepal's army.
About 900 workers are still missing and 500 are believed to be trapped in various tunnels across 12 hydropower projects where rescue efforts have focused, according to authorities. The devasting flash floods which hit the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Tanahun left at least 1,300 people killed, while more than 5,000 remain missing. The disaster was likely caused by a glacier collapse, according to Nepal's disaster management agency.
Specialised teams from China, India, South Korea and the United States have joined search efforts in hope of finding survivors.
