Ukraine and Russia exchanged attacks as Melania Trump's localized ceasefire continued in southern Ukraine.

Russian drones struck an educational institution in Kharkiv overnight, while Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow as the two countries continued exchanging attacks despite a localized ceasefire brokered by Melania Trump. The latest attacks came after a deadly 24-hour period in Ukraine. A Russian drone strike on two passenger trains stopped at a station in Dnipro killed at least 13 people and injured 10 others, according to Ukrainian officials.

Washington is seeking to restart peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, with discussions expected to take place next month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the Dnipro strike as a "horrific attack" in a post on X. In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said Russian forces struck two districts of the northeastern Ukrainian city early Thursday.

One attack caused a fire in the Kholodnohirskyi district, while another hit an educational facility in the Saltivskyi district. "According to updated information from the Situation Center, the enemy struck an educational institution," Terekhov wrote on Telegram. The extent of the damage was still being assessed, and initial reports did not confirm any casualties from the overnight strikes.

Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defenses had downed 1,214 Ukrainian drones overnight, in what it described as one of Kyiv's largest drone attacks. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said around half of the drones were heading toward the Russian capital. A six-day humanitarian ceasefire continued in and around the Russian-occupied Ukrainian town of Oleshky, in the southern Kherson region.

The agreement, facilitated by U.S. first lady Melania Trump, is intended to allow humanitarian aid to reach residents and enable civilians to evacuate. There was a series of Russian strikes on civilian and industrial facilities across Ukraine on Wednesday. In the western Rivne region, a Russian strike hit a civilian enterprise in the Sarny district, killing one man and starting a fire, according to regional military administration head Oleksandr Koval.

"A civilian enterprise in the Sarny district came under enemy attack. Unfortunately, casualties could not be avoided. One man was killed," Koval wrote on Telegram.
