US Supreme Court again rejects Trump's request to overturn sex assault judgement

It's the second time Trump has asked the Supreme Court to overturn damages awarded to E. Jean Carroll.

The US Supreme Court rejected for a second time President Donald Trump's request to overturn a jury judgement that he sexually assaulted and defamed writer E. In July, Trump and the Justice Department asked the Supreme Court to overturn an $83 million (€71 million) defamation verdict won by writer Carroll. Carroll testified twice before New York juries that Trump sexually assaulted her in a dressing room at a department store in 1996.

The former journalist and columnist first made the allegations public in a 2019 memoir. She later sued Trump for defamation after he accused her of fabricating the allegations to boost book sales, saying he had never met her and that “she’s not my type.” Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. The US president paid $5.6 million (€4.8 million) to Carroll last month after a civil jury found he sexually assaulted and defamed her.

It's the second time Trump has asked the Supreme Court to overturn damages awarded to Carroll. The Supreme Court did not give any reason for its decision not to hear the president's challenge.
