USC Loses Key Starter to Season-Ending Injury Right Before Facing Washington

Ahead of a clash with Washington, news arrived that the USC Trojans have lost a starting offensive player for the season.

The USC Trojans are heading into a major clash with the Washington Huskies on Saturday night, but have received unfortunate news about a key starter ahead of kickoff. On Saturday, CBS Sports's Matt Zenitz reported that USC wide receiver Corey Simms is expected to miss the rest of this season due to a knee injury. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore receiver appeared in four of his team's five games this season.

All four of Simms' appearances were USC wins, as he compiled 178 yards and one touchdown on 12 receptions. In his team's Week 4 win over Rutgers, Simms had four catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans are 10th in the NCAA with 325 passing yards per game and are 25th in scoring, averaging 39.8 points per game.

Kayden Dixon-Wyatt currently leads the team with 372 receiving yards and three touchdowns. In last weekend's loss to the Ducks, Dixon-Wyatt led all Trojans wide receivers with seven receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Jayden Maiava also completed six passes to Mark Bowman for 44 yards, one of his favorite targets in that game. Simms was beginning to show his ability to have an impact as part of the offense, so this is an unfortunate derailment of his college career. He had become part of the rotation in Trent Mosley's absence due to an injury.

Without Simms, there are options, but further injuries to the team's receivers could become a problem. Thankfully, there are plenty of options so far. Most likely, Maiava will now look towards those other receiver options as he and USC attempt to get back to their winning ways against the Washington Huskies.

As of this writing, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Trojans favored by over a touchdown at home.
