On Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles placed Jalen Hurts on injured reserve as the quarterback deals with a superficial blood clot in his calf. It's unclear when Hurts can return to the field, and he could be out for several weeks or the remainder of the season depending on the method of treatment. On Sunday, the Eagles turned to their sixth-round pick in 2023, Tanner McKee, to start against the Carolina Panthers.
McKee went 26 of 45 passing for 215 yards and one interception in the Eagles' 25-14 loss to the Panthers. The fourth consecutive loss dropped the Eagles to 2-4 on the season. Dalton threw an interception on his only passing attempt of the night. The Eagles wound up releasing Dalton before their contest in Week 5 in a bid to keep retired right tackle Lane Johnson on the 53-man roster for cap space reasons. Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Dalton declined an offer to return to the Eagles.
He plans to sign with another team in Week 7. "They (the Eagles) wanted to bring him back, but Dalton has politely declined, we’re told," wrote Florio. "Dalton, who has played for the Bengals, Cowboys, Bears, Saints, Panthers, and Eagles, will be signing with a team other than the Eagles as soon as tomorrow." In addition to McKee, the Eagles have rookie Cole Payton on the 53-man roster.
On Friday, Philadelphia signed Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. Philadelphia could decide to make an aggressive move for quarterback help this week. While the Eagles have a losing record, they're not out of the race in the weak NFC East.
Philadelphia is tied with the Dallas Cowboys for second place in the division and 1.5 games behind the New York Giants for first place. For more on the Eagles and the NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.
